Is YouTuber Sayak Chakraborty in Legal Trouble Over Beef Allegations?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 1 (NationPress) YouTuber Sayak Chakraborty has landed in legal hot water after claiming he was served beef instead of goat meat at a restaurant located on Park Street.
A formal complaint was lodged against Chakraborty by a man named Joyraj Bhattacharjee at the Park Street Police Station on Saturday night, according to police reports released on Sunday.
The complaint accuses Chakraborty of attempting to incite a riot through conspiracy. Bhattacharjee took to social media to announce, "I have filed a complaint against a specific influencer at the police station, not on Facebook."
Earlier, Kolkata Police arrested a staff member from a well-known bar-cum-restaurant in Kolkata's Park Street, who allegedly served beef instead of mutton to Chakraborty. This arrest followed a complaint made by the YouTuber at the Park Street Police Station on Friday night.
The waiter has been charged under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for deliberately hurting religious sentiments by insulting religious beliefs. During the court proceedings, the detained individual, Sheikh Nasiruddin, was denied bail.
Reports indicate that Sayak visited the popular bar-cum-restaurant Olypub on Friday night accompanied by two friends. According to his complaint, they ordered mutton steak but were allegedly served beef instead.
Following the incident, Sayak released a video depicting the altercation with the waiter and restaurant manager, which quickly gained traction on social media platforms.
In the viral video posted on Facebook, Sayak recounted his experience, stating he and his friends had ordered mutton, yet the waiter mistakenly served them beef.
While many acknowledged the unfortunate nature of the incident, numerous social media users questioned Chakraborty's actions. Amid the beef controversy, one of Sayak's friends who was present during the incident clarified his stance on social media, asserting that while he did mention being served a different dish, he did not intend to provoke any religious sentiments.
