Did Olypub’s Beef Mix-Up Lead to a YouTuber’s Apology?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 1 (NationPress) The renowned Park Street establishment Olypub has extended a formal apology after inadvertently serving beef instead of goat meat to YouTuber Sayak Chakraborty, leading him to retract his police complaint against the waiter implicated in the incident.
The event transpired on the evening of January 30, when Sayak dined at Olypub with two companions and ordered a mutton steak. According to his complaint, they were mistakenly provided beef, resulting in a confrontation with the waiter and manager. Sayak subsequently posted a video of the interaction on social media, which rapidly gained traction.
In an official statement released on Sunday, Olypub expressed, “On the evening of January 30, 2026, one of our waiters made a very serious but unintentional mistake while serving. It was a genuine error, with no harm intended. We sincerely apologize for this oversight and for inadvertently offending our customer’s sentiments.”
The restaurant further stated, “Olypub is founded on principles of respect for all individuals—regardless of caste, creed, religion, or gender. We take pride in our 80-year legacy and reaffirm our dedication to treating all our patrons and staff with respect and dignity. We are genuinely grateful for the overwhelming support we have received during this time.”
Following Sayak’s complaint, the Park Street Police took action against the waiter, Sheikh Nasiruddin, under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly causing harm to religious sentiments, and he was denied bail after being presented in court.
The situation intensified when Joyraj Bhattacharjee, a Howrah resident, filed a counter-complaint against Sayak, accusing him of attempting to incite communal discord through conspiracy.
In light of increasing social media criticism regarding his handling of the situation, Sayak declared the withdrawal of his complaint. “Olypub has finally apologized. Therefore, please refrain from fabricating further stories. The speculations about scripts are astonishing. I went to the police station in anger. Due to this mistake and Olypub's negligence, I acted irrationally. I have never consumed beef. Moving forward, I will exercise more caution and consideration. I rely on public opinion, and thus, whatever the public says holds weight. I am retracting my complaint against the waiter and Olypub,” he stated.
Recognizing his own part in the incident, Sayak added, “My issue was with Olypub's mistake. Perhaps my reaction was also negative; I apologize. In the future, I wish to avoid becoming embroiled in such controversies while vlogging.”
