New Delhi, Sep 23 (NationPress) The timeless medical tradition of Ayurveda has the potential to foster a healthy and harmonious society, asserted Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav during the celebration of the 10th National Ayurveda Day this Tuesday.
Previously, Ayurveda Day was commemorated on Dhanteras annually to honor Lord Dhanwantari, the divine physician. The date, determined by the lunar calendar, would change each year.
To provide a consistent identity, the Ministry of Ayush has now established September 23 as Ayurveda Day, enhancing global engagement with this ancient knowledge system.
“Warm congratulations on the 10th National Ayurveda Day!” Jadhav expressed in a post on social media platform X.
“On this occasion, let us commit to fostering a healthy, balanced, and aware society by sharing our ancient medical practice, Ayurveda, with everyone,” he encouraged.
This year's theme, “Ayurveda for People & Planet,” underscores that Ayurveda transcends mere healthcare; it embodies a science founded on the principle of harmony between individuals and their environment.
“Traditional systems provide sustainable health-care solutions for challenges like climate change and lifestyle diseases,” the MoS remarked on X while sharing his article about the increasing importance of traditional medicine.
In his article, he noted the significant transformation in India’s traditional medicine sector, which has expanded nearly eightfold within the last decade.
“The manufacturing sector's revenues have surged from 21,697 crore in 2014-15 to over Rs 1.37 lakh crore today, while the services sector has generated Rs 1.67 lakh crore in revenue,” Jadhav stated.
He also highlighted the growth in exports of Ayush and herbal products, now valued at $1.54 billion and reaching over 150 countries.
This year marks the 10th edition of Ayurveda Day festivities, with the main event taking place at the All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Goa.
As in previous years, the Ministry of Ayush has orchestrated events nationwide across all states and union territories, along with extensive global outreach through Indian Missions abroad, international universities, wellness organizations, and diaspora networks.
Building on last year’s global involvement from over 150 countries, Ayurveda Day 2025 aims to further broaden its international reach, reaffirming India’s leadership in traditional and holistic health systems.
To celebrate this milestone edition and promote the global Ayurveda movement, several key initiatives will be launched during the festivities, including “Desh ka Swasthya Parikshan”, a nationwide health checkup campaign, and the DRAVYA Portal (Digitized Retrieval Application for Versatile Yardstick of AYUSH Substances), which will make the largest collection of data on Ayurvedic ingredients and products accessible to all.
The Goa Government, All India Institute of Ayurveda, and Tata Memorial Center will inaugurate an integrated oncology unit; further initiatives include the launch of the Central Sterile Supply Department, Hospital Linen Processing and Care Unit, and Blood Supply Unit at the All-India Institute of Ayurveda.
