Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) expressed its appreciation for the government’s prompt introduction of the RELIEF (Resilience and Logistics Intervention for Export Facilitation) initiative as part of the Export Promotion Mission. This initiative is designed to assist exporters who are facing challenges due to the current disruptions in maritime trade routes in West Asia.
Recent events surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the broader Gulf area have resulted in considerable obstacles, including vessel rerouting, longer transit durations, congestion at transshipment hubs, and sharp rises in freight and insurance expenses.
Such disruptions have generated substantial uncertainty for Indian exporters, especially those with ties to the region.
In response to the initiative, S.C. Ralhan, President of FIEO, noted that the government's rapid action signifies its strong dedication to protecting India’s export interests and maintaining trade flow amidst global uncertainties.
FIEO lauded the detailed structure of the RELIEF package, which caters to the requirements of exporters at various phases of the export process, including enhanced risk protection, support for forthcoming shipments, and assistance for MSME exporters.
The initiative promises a dedicated financial allocation and a real-time monitoring system, which is anticipated to facilitate transparency and prompt benefit distribution.
The FIEO President mentioned that the RELIEF initiative is expected to significantly alleviate the immediate effects of logistics disruptions.
The Federation also reiterated its resolve to collaborate with the government and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and smooth execution of the scheme, as well as to continue gathering feedback from the exporting sector.
According to an official statement, ECGC Ltd (formerly the Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India Ltd.), which is wholly owned by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has been designated as the primary agency responsible for verification, claim processing, disbursement, and monitoring.
The RELIEF initiative comprises three interrelated components that encompass shipments destined for countries in the region, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Israel, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, and Yemen, whether for delivery or transshipment.
