Government Unveils Initiatives for Digital Content and AI Skills Development
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) The government has unveiled three key initiatives aimed at enhancing digital content, fostering AI skill development, and promoting public broadcasting, as stated in an official announcement made on Monday.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, introduced these programs to "fortify India’s media, broadcasting, and digital landscape while nurturing the creative economy."
The national AI Skilling Initiative, in collaboration with Google and YouTube through the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), aims to equip 15,000 individuals from the creative and media industries. This initiative is designed to enhance AI capabilities in fields like animation, visual effects, gaming, comics (AVGC), and media technology.
Mr. Vaishnaw characterized 'MyWAVES' as a robust platform for content creators, allowing them to produce, upload, and share content, thus fortifying India’s digital framework.
The third initiative entails the introduction of television sets with integrated satellite tuners, accompanied by a new, user-friendly electronic program guide (EPG). This innovation will enable viewers to directly access DD Free Dish channels on their TV sets without requiring a separate set-top box, significantly cutting down on extra expenses, cabling, and the inconvenience of managing multiple remotes, according to the announcement.
Additionally, the advanced program guide will facilitate users in effortlessly navigating channels and program schedules all in one interface, enhancing the viewing experience for households nationwide.
In relation to the ‘Creators’ Corner’ initiative, the minister highlighted its increasing popularity, stating, "some content has already garnered over 3 million views," he noted. He encouraged creators throughout the country to actively utilize Doordarshan and platforms like MyWAVES to present India’s rich cultural heritage, traditions, and regional diversity.
'MyWaves', a new component of the WAVES OTT platform, will empower citizens to create, upload, and disseminate content.
'MyWaves' is structured as a platform dedicated to user-generated content (UGC) that will also facilitate participation in national initiatives like the Create in India Challenge, as outlined in the statement.
