Bengaluru, Oct 31 (NationPress) The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) have officially declared a strategic partnership designed to enhance India’s integration into the global semiconductor value chain.
This announcement took place during a press conference in Bengaluru, coinciding with the India Semiconductor Leadership Roundtable co-hosted by ICEA and GSA.
By leveraging ICEA’s profound involvement with India’s policy and manufacturing landscape alongside GSA’s vast international network of semiconductor leaders, the initiative aims to promote cross-border collaboration, bolster supply chain diversification, and elevate India’s role as a significant player in the global semiconductor industry.
In conjunction with this partnership, ICEA and GSA convened the inaugural 'India Semiconductor Leadership Roundtable', which was attended by key players from the global and Indian semiconductor sectors and high-ranking policymakers.
Looking ahead, ICEA and GSA plan to jointly host the 'India Semiconductor Leadership Summit' in 2026, with the date yet to be determined.
Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary at MeitY and CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, remarked that the ICEA-GSA collaboration is both timely and strategic.
He stated, "It links the global fabless ecosystem with India’s expanding design and manufacturing capabilities, paving the way for the development of Indian fabless champions, emerging Indian foundries, and packaging units."
The government has allocated an impressive outlay of Rs 76,000 crore (approximately $10 billion) under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to foster the semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem. Currently, around 10 projects with investment pledges nearing Rs 1.6 lakh crore (about $18.2 billion), including fabrication units, ATMP/OSAT facilities, and initiatives focusing on compound semiconductors, have been approved, demonstrating vigorous implementation momentum.
Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA, emphasized, "Our collaboration with GSA is a crucial step in establishing India as a pivotal hub in global semiconductor value chains, where design, manufacturing, and innovation converge. This alliance will assist in transforming India’s policy vision into sustainable industrial capability and global leadership."
Jodi Shelton, CEO of GSA, expressed that "we believe collaboration is the bedrock of advancement. Our partnership with ICEA and ISM signifies a mutual commitment to link India’s vibrant innovation with the broader global semiconductor ecosystem. Together, we can enhance India’s role in design, manufacturing, and talent, while fostering substantial global connections that fortify resilience and collective growth throughout the entire value chain.”
