Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Thursday that India is becoming a ‘natural hub’ for Artificial Intelligence, supported by a strong digital infrastructure, secure framework, and a flourishing startup environment.
While addressing the India AI Impact Summit, PM Modi pointed out the country’s growing technological prowess across vital sectors.
“From semiconductors and chip manufacturing to quantum computing, India is creating a resilient ecosystem with secure data centres, a robust IT backbone, and a vibrant startup culture. These attributes establish India as a natural hub for affordable, scalable, and secure AI solutions,” he remarked.
Highlighting India’s unique advantages, the Prime Minister emphasized that the nation's diversity and democratic framework place it in a strong position within the global AI sphere.
“India possesses diversity, demography, and democracy. An AI model that thrives in India can achieve success globally,” he noted.
“Design and develop in India. Deliver to the world, deliver to humanity,” he continued.
PM Modi stressed the significance of shifting AI development’s focus from machines to people, advocating for systems that are sensitive, accountable, and in harmony with human values.
“This is the core objective of this Global AI Impact Summit. India’s vision for AI is encapsulated in the theme of this Summit -- ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya’, signifying ‘Welfare for All, Happiness for All’. This is our benchmark,” he stated.
Emphasizing the necessity to democratize Artificial Intelligence, the Prime Minister insisted that technology must empower rather than alienate.
“We must ensure that individuals do not remain mere data points and are not treated as raw material. AI must be democratized. It should become a tool of inclusion and empowerment, especially for the Global South,” he insisted.
Reflecting on global sentiments regarding AI, PM Modi observed that there are divergent opinions about its future.
“Today, there are two types of people in the world. One views AI with fear. The other sees fortune in AI. I declare with responsibility and pride -- India does not perceive fear in AI, India sees potential in AI, India envisions its future in AI,” he articulated.
“We have talent, energy, capacity, and policy clarity,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister also highlighted concrete advancements showcased at the summit itself. “I am pleased to announce that three Indian companies have unveiled their AI models and applications at this Summit. These innovations reflect the depth and diversity of India’s youthful talent and the solutions India offers to the globe,” he added.
During his address, an AI-driven sign language interpretation was displayed in the background, emphasizing the practical applications of the technology being discussed at the summit.
