How are the Indian Army and NSUT Collaborating on AI-Driven Defence Solutions?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 22 (NationPress) The Indian Army has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT), located in New Delhi, to collaboratively develop software and artificial intelligence-based innovations for defence applications.
This partnership is in line with the Centre's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, aimed at bolstering indigenous innovation in defence technology, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.
Through this agreement, NSUT's students and faculty members will participate in live problem-solving projects presented by the Indian Army, providing them with practical experience related to actual military needs.
The Army mentioned that NSUT will also enhance capacity building by offering Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) and customized training tailored for Army personnel.
“NSUT will facilitate capacity building through Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) and bespoke training for the Indian Army, enhancing indigenous innovation-driven defence readiness,” the statement continued.
While the primary emphasis of the MoU is on artificial intelligence and software development, the initiative embodies a broader vision.
Similar partnerships with other academic institutions highlight a growing focus on areas vital to modern warfare, such as robotics, cybersecurity, data analytics, and geoinformatics.
This collaboration aims to connect operational military expertise with academic research and innovation, striving to create a technologically advanced and future-ready armed force.
The Indian Army has previously established comparable MoUs with leading educational and research institutions, including Delhi Technological University (DTU), IIT Bhubaneswar, and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), to accelerate the development of homegrown defence technologies.
In the MoU signed with DTU in October, the Army aims to foster research and provide specialized courses for military personnel in critical areas such as defence technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
“The collaboration focuses on research and educational offerings for military personnel in essential sectors, including Defence Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Geoinformatics, Data Analytics, and Soldier Upskilling. By bridging practical experience with academic excellence, the partnership endeavors to cultivate a technologically empowered, future-ready force and propel India’s Decade of Transformation,” the Indian Army stated in a recent post.
