Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has unequivocally denounced the allegations of racist behavior that surfaced during a recent Indian Super League (ISL) match. The federation reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating discrimination and announced that the issue has been forwarded to its Disciplinary Committee for a thorough investigation.
This controversy arose after an ISL encounter between Kerala Blasters FC and Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium last Sunday, where a viral video seemingly depicted a spectator hurling racist insults at Kerala Blasters defender Fallou Ndiaye. The footage quickly circulated on social media, igniting widespread backlash and apprehension regarding player safety and fan conduct in Indian football.
In a formal statement issued on Tuesday, the AIFF confirmed receipt of complaints about racist acts directed at players throughout the ongoing ISL 2025–26 season. The federation expressed its solidarity with players and all individuals entitled to engage in football without enduring discrimination.
"The All India Football Federation acknowledges the complaints regarding alleged racist behavior targeting players in the ongoing Indian Super League 2025-26 season. We are firmly aligned with the players and every individual who deserves to enjoy this beautiful game without facing any form of discrimination.
"The AIFF enforces a zero-tolerance policy towards racism. The complaints have been submitted to the Disciplinary Committee, an independent judicial entity, for review in accordance with the AIFF Disciplinary Code. The AIFF will refrain from further comments while the investigation is ongoing.
"The Indian Football community stands united against racism. Individuals who introduce hatred into our stadiums have no place in our sport," the AIFF stated.
In the aftermath of the incident, Kerala Blasters released a powerful statement denouncing the offensive act, describing it as “appalling” and confirming that the incident had been officially reported to ISL and AIFF authorities. The club emphasized its dedication to safeguarding the integrity and dignity of its players.
“The Club has noted the appalling incident that occurred during our last match, where one of our players faced overt racist chants,” stated Kerala Blasters.
Reflecting on the match, Kerala Blasters triumphed over Bengaluru FC with a 2-1 victory, marking their first win against them since September 2023, propelled by goals from Victor Bertomeu and Franchu.
