Mumbai, Feb 24 (NationPress) Madanpura, a quaint neighborhood in the center of South Mumbai, is poised for a remarkable change with the launch of its inaugural community football pitch. This venture aims to create a secure and organized environment for local youth to hone their football abilities.
By establishing quality sports facilities in the locality, the project presents an exceptional opportunity to uplift the children of Madanpura, allowing them to exhibit their talents and forge paths towards promising futures.
This initiative is part of the OSCAR Foundations’ 'Healthy Goals Programme, with Mumbai City FC acting as the technical partner.
In a recent interview with IANS, Kandarp Chandra, CEO of Mumbai City FC, elaborated on the club’s mission to ‘unveil the beauty of the game within communities.
“Our vision at Mumbai City FC transcends merely cultivating elite professional players; we also aim to disseminate the beauty of the game throughout communities. Our objective is to utilize football as a catalyst for achieving social, economic, and environmental goals. This strategy will foster values such as teamwork, respect, and fair play. The club is dedicated not only to players and children but also to improving coaching, medical, and safeguarding standards citywide,” Chandra informed IANS.
Through the ‘Healthy Goals Programme’, the Mohammed Umar Rajjab School will be the first in Madanpura to provide structured football and life skills training, alongside leadership development for children and youth from the community. This initiative represents a pivotal move towards empowering local youth with top-notch sports facilities and vital life skills.
Dinesh Nair, the youth academy director of MCFC, highlighted that the talent showcased on the field not only aims to pave the way for the younger generation to enter the Mumbai City academy but also creates a scouting platform for other clubs and academies in the city.
“The community's children now have a safe and protected space to play and have fun. Regular, organized coaching sessions tailored for young children, followed by a professionally conducted league, will create opportunities for these aspiring footballers to display their talents. The most gifted children can be scouted not just for the Mumbai City FC academy but for other clubs and academies throughout Mumbai,” Nair shared with IANS.
