Getafe on Tuesday, 2 June confirmed that goalkeeper David Soria has signed a fresh four-year contract that will keep him at the Coliseum until 30 June 2030. The 33-year-old, who joined from Sevilla in 2018, has now committed his future to the Madrid-based club for what will stretch into a 12-season association.

Soria has made 301 appearances for Getafe across competitions, including an unbroken run of 189 La Liga matches in the first team. In its official statement, the club said the Spaniard had ‘established himself as a fundamental player both on and off the pitch thanks to his performance, leadership, and commitment.'

A defensive bedrock for Bordalas

Soria's renewal anchors a back unit that proved one of the meanest in Spain last season. Under coach Jose Bordalas, Getafe conceded just 38 goals in La Liga — a tally bettered only by FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. A strong second half of the campaign carried the side to a seventh-place finish and qualification for next season's UEFA Conference League.

Squad questions still open

While the goalkeeping spot is settled, several other pieces remain unresolved. Bordalas is yet to extend his own contract, and two key midfielders look set to depart. Mauro Arambarri is reportedly closing in on a move to River Plate, while Luis Milla has been linked with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

From rejected trialist to club captain figure

The Madrid-born goalkeeper's journey to the top has been anything but linear. After being released by Real Madrid's youth setup, Soria endured a difficult spell in England — picking up an injury on his first day at Leicester City, being cut by Birmingham City within six weeks on salary-cap grounds, and ending a trial at Stoke City discouraged.

Back in Spain, knockbacks at Real Betis B, Sporting de Gijón and CD Canillas preceded his breakthrough at Sevilla FC in January 2013. He worked his way up from the C team in the Tercera División, with manager Unai Emery handing him his senior debut on 2 December 2014 in a 3-0 Copa del Rey win at UD Logroñés. He stayed at Sevilla until 2017 before completing his move to Getafe in July 2018.
