New Delhi, July 10 (NationPress) The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has called on citizens to maintain the enthusiasm for the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative as it gears up for its 31st edition, taking place nationwide in collaboration with Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) on July 13.
This event is set to unfold across more than 6,000 locations throughout India, with an anticipated participation of around 50,000 individuals. A key highlight of this weekend’s celebration will be the participation of former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion and India’s sole Heavyweight titleholder, The Great Khali.
Standing at 7 feet tall, Khali will spearhead the cycling rally in the national capital at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium, joined by other notable figures.
“What began as a modest initiative in December last year has transformed into a nationwide fitness movement, impacting over 11,000 locations and motivating millions of citizens. We are advancing Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of an 'Obesity-Free India' with every pedal stroke. Let Fit India Sundays on Cycle embody the essence of a new India, as we cycle toward a healthier, stronger, and more vibrant Viksit Bharat,” Dr. Mandaviya stated in a recent release.
Initiated by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle has grown into a flagship national campaign, urging millions to embrace cycling as a way of life. Recent statistics reveal that the event has expanded to over 11,000 locations across India, with participation exceeding 400,000 citizens from various age groups, as per the release.
This Sunday’s cycling event will see collaboration with PSUs, and over 500 cyclists are expected to join Khali, also known as Dalip Singh Rana, in New Delhi. Dalip, aged 52, made history as the first Indian professional wrestler to sign a contract with WWE in 2006.
Previous editions of Fit India Sundays on Cycle have featured themes honoring armed forces, postmen, and collaborations with sanitation workers and healthcare professionals.
The overarching message centers around ‘Fighting against Obesity’, a rallying cry from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This edition emphasizes corporate partnerships with PSUs, reinforcing the government’s comprehensive approach to fitness and the development of sports in India, as claimed in the release.
To amplify the excitement of the 31st edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, a special event will be hosted by Raahgiri Foundation in Gurgaon, featuring dance corners, hand painting stations, and traditional street games like Ludo, Carrom, and Snake & Ladders, transforming public spaces into engaging playgrounds.
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), in partnership with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), MY Bharat, and Yogasana Bharat. Over 2,000 cycling clubs are involved in the movement, participating actively every Sunday.
These cycling initiatives are executed by numerous Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), and various National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) across the nation.
