HIL 2024-25: Thierry Brinkman Excited to Team Up with Indian Players

New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) Star player Thierry Brinkman from the Netherlands’ men’s hockey team is gearing up to wear the colors of Kalinga Lancers in the forthcoming edition of the Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25. With the eagerly awaited league returning after a seven-year break, Brinkman is enthusiastic about being part of the action, especially in India, where he relishes the opportunity to play in one of the sport’s most passionate venues.
Looking ahead to his upcoming participation, Brinkman expressed, “I am eager to compete in Rourkela. The stadium there is the most magnificent hockey venue in the world. We had some remarkable World Cup matches there in 2023. Great memories.” As a vital player for the Dutch national team, who played a key role in their Gold medal victory at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Brinkman is excited about connecting with the Indian hockey community.
“For this year’s HIL, I’m truly looking forward to playing for the Indian hockey supporters. Being teammates with Indian players will be something special,” he added.
Brinkman was also intrigued by the auction aspect of HIL. “I find the entire auction system unique. There was significant media interest due to the concept where teams can ‘acquire’ players. It’s wonderful that HIL is back after seven years,” remarked Brinkman, emphasizing the league’s innovative nature and its international allure.
As a professional athlete, Brinkman acknowledged that hockey, coupled with sponsorships, constitutes his main source of income, making leagues like HIL crucial for his career. “The Hockey India League offers an amazing opportunity for players like me to not only showcase our talents on a global platform but also to interact with fans and teammates from around the world.
Furthermore, hockey along with sponsorships is currently my primary financial source, making HIL a significant boost for me in that regard,” he noted.
