New Delhi, Nov 18 (NationPress) The scheduled home series for India against Bangladesh, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is in December as part of the ICC Future Tour Programme, is likely to face a postponement due to notable political events unfolding in Bangladesh.
Although the specific dates and venues had yet to be confirmed, the tour's timeline had been in doubt even prior to this week's political changes in Bangladesh.
On Monday, a tribunal court handed down a death sentence to the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose asylum in India has escalated tensions, intensifying Dhaka's demand for her return and impacting diplomatic ties between both nations.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received a notification from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the need to reschedule the white-ball series. While no explicit reason was mentioned, it is widely believed that the existing political climate between India and Bangladesh played a crucial role in this decision.
This series was part of the ICC's Future Tours Programme and was meant to be India's final matches leading up to the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). It also marked the only series scheduled between their successful ODI World Cup run and the WPL.
The matches were expected to occur in Kolkata and Cuttack, with the ODIs initiating a new chapter in the Women's ODI Championship for both teams.
Earlier this year, the Indian men's team’s white-ball tour to Bangladesh, originally slated for August 2025, was postponed to September 2026.
“This decision has been made after discussions between the two boards, considering international cricket commitments and the scheduling convenience for both teams. The BCB is eager to host India in September 2026 for this highly anticipated series. Updated dates and fixtures will be announced in due course,” the BCCI stated previously.
