Adelaide, May 29 (NationPress) The Adelaide Strikers have revealed the pre-draft signing of English fast-bowling allrounder Jamie Overton, marking his third consecutive season in the Big Bash League (BBL) 15.
In a challenging BBL 14 for the team, Overton emerged as a key player, securing 11 wickets during the season, highlighted by a vital 2-27 in a narrow 11-run defeat against the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval.
His impact extended beyond bowling; Overton also excelled with the bat, accumulating 191 runs at an impressive average of 95.40, with a highest score of 45 not out.
"I'm truly excited to return to Adelaide for another season. My experience with the Strikers has been fantastic, and the support from the fans at Adelaide Oval is incredible. It’s a great club filled with amazing teammates, and I’m focused on helping us compete for the finals and ultimately, the BBL title this season," Overton stated.
To date, Overton has taken 27 BBL wickets in 18 matches at an economy rate of 8.81 and has been a remarkable finisher with the bat, scoring 276 runs at an average of 69 and a strike-rate of 150.81.
Head coach Tim Paine noted that signing Overton was crucial as they prepare for BBL 15. "Retaining Jamie as a pre-draft signing was essential for us. His performances over the past two seasons have been remarkable, not just individually but for his competitive spirit and the energy he brings to the side.
"Jamie has a significant impact on games; he can alter the outcome within just a few overs. This signing marks a fantastic initial step in assembling our squad for a successful BBL 15 campaign, and we’re confident our members and fans will be thrilled to see him back in blue," Paine added.
Before last season, the BBL introduced a new rule permitting one overseas player to be pre-signed ahead of the draft, ensuring they are available for the entire season, including finals, to combat the trend of overseas players leaving for other leagues in late January.
