Mumbai, Feb 25 (NationPress) Amateur Mannat Brar delivered a stellar performance with a score of 2-under 68, securing a two-shot advantage after the opening round of the fourth leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club.
Mannat, who is set to represent India at the upcoming Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championships in Vietnam next week, was on track for an impressive round, reaching four-under through 12 holes. However, a trio of bogeys between the 14th and 17th holes pulled her back. She concluded her round with a birdie on the 18th, finishing at 68.
In a tie for second place, three players—Kriti Chowhan, Seher Atwal, and Shweta Mansingh—each shot an even par 70.
The highlight of Shweta’s round was her remarkable hat-trick of birdies from the 15th to the 17th holes. She recorded four birdies and four bogeys overall. Past Tour winner Seher managed two birdies paired with two bogeys, while Kriti also had a similar scorecard with two birdies and bogeys. The 17-year-old Mannat, who made history last year as the first Indian to reach the semi-finals of the R&A Girls Amateur, is also the reigning champion of the All India Amateur and Junior Girls Championship.
She started strong with birdies on the first, fourth, and sixth holes, turning in at 3-under, and added a fourth birdie at the 12th. Unfortunately, bogeys on the 14th, 15th, and 17th holes followed before she closed with a birdie on the 18th.
The leaderboard was tightly contested, with five players tied at 2-over 72, including Hitaashee Bakshi, the 2024 Hero Order of Merit winner, last week’s runner-up Vani Kapoor, seasoned player Neha Tripathi, Jasmine Shekar, and amateur Anuradha Chaudhuri.
Six other competitors, led by Sneha Singh, the recent winner of the last WPGT event, along with amateurs Saanvi Somu, Keerthana Rajeev, Aradhana Manikandan, Ananya Datar, and Lavanya Jadon, were tied for tenth place, each carding 3-over 73.
Several prominent players faced challenges, with Ridhima Dilawari at 74 in T-16, Gaurika Bishnoi and Khushi Khanijau at 75 in T-21, Amandeep Drall at 76 in T-23, and Rhea Purvi at 77 in T-25.
