Mumbai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Amateur Saanvi Somu, heading to Vietnam, delivered a remarkable bogey-free second round of two-under 68, taking the lead in the fourth leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT) at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club here on Wednesday. The 16-year-old Saanvi has consistently been a runner-up in the WPGT, with her most recent second-place finish occurring in the season's first leg. Following Mannat Brar's lead the previous day, Saanvi is the second amateur to shine this week.

Saanvi, who will represent India at the upcoming Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship, initially shot 73 in the first round. In her second round, she parred the first 11 holes before achieving her first birdie on the Par-4 12th hole. This was followed by five steady pars and another birdie on the Par-5 18th, concluding her round with a score of 68. With a total score of 1-over 141, she is one stroke ahead of the seasoned Vani Kapoor, who recorded an even par 70 to add to her first-round score of 72.

Vani, preparing for her upcoming international appearances, had three birdies and three bogeys in her first 11 holes, finishing with seven consecutive pars. Another amateur, Anuradha Chaudhuri, also shot an even par 70, creating a three-way tie with Vani and Seher Atwal (72-70).

Lavanya Jadon, after starting the day with a bogey, made a strong comeback with four birdies from the fifth to the 14th, finishing at even par 70 and tied for fifth with Jasmine Shekar, a two-time winner in 2024. Jasmine completed her rounds with scores of 72-71, totaling 3-over 143.

On a tightly contested leaderboard featuring a dozen players within four strokes, Gaurika Bishnoi (75-69) held the seventh position. Gaurika began her day with the only eagle and followed it with nine pars, despite facing back-to-back bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes. She managed to secure a birdie on the 18th, finishing with a score of 69, the second-best of the day after Saanvi's 68.

The first-round leader, amateur Mannat Brar (68-77), who is also heading to the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship in Vietnam next week, was tied for eighth place with Hitaashee Bakshi (72-73), the 2024 Order of Merit winner, Shweta Mansingh (70-75), Disha Kavery (74-71), and Kriti Chowhan (70-75), all at 5-over 145.

Mannat, after a fantastic first round, struggled on the second day, finishing with a round of 7-over 77, which was nine shots worse than her first day's 68, marked by three bogeys and two double bogeys. Ridhima Dilawari (74-72) was tied for 13th with Ananya Datar and Durga Nittur. Sneha Singh, the winner of the last two events, had an off day, following her first round of 73 with a score of 74, placing her tied for 16th. At 7-over 147, she trails by six strokes but remains in contention for a chance at a third consecutive win with a strong final round.
