New Delhi, May 17 (NationPress) Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma disclosed that the Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has implemented effective changes in Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna's bowling techniques. By instilling confidence in Siraj’s outswinger and adjusting Prasidh’s bowling length, Nehra has significantly enhanced their performance.
“Not much change was required. Ashish bhai made a simple yet impactful adjustment by encouraging Siraj to trust his outswinger. It’s a hallmark of a great coach, especially one with international experience,” Ishant said.
“He advised Siraj to start with an outswing delivery, emphasizing its effectiveness. Siraj had previously hesitated to bowl it, often opting for a wobble-seam delivery instead. Nehra’s guidance helped him regain confidence in his primary weapon,” Ishant elaborated during a discussion with IANS.
Regarding Prasidh’s bowling, Ishant explained how Nehra has refined his approach. “Prasidh, being tall, naturally bowled at a length of six metres, which generated bounce. Nehra suggested he adjust his length slightly forward to enhance his effectiveness in the middle overs.”
“In terms of soil conditions, we adapt our lengths according to the pitch. For red soil, a four-and-a-half-metre length is ideal, while on black soil, a length of five to six metres works better. Nehra practiced these adjustments with Prasidh, helping him incorporate a yorker when he felt confident,” Ishant explained.
Nehra, who guided GT to their IPL 2022 victory, continues to lead the team effectively this season. Ishant shared insights on how his relationship with Nehra has grown from teammates to a strong player-coach bond.
“I’ve known him since my debut, both in international and first-class cricket. We often discuss strategies informally, sharing insights on opposing batters. Our discussions are relaxed, not formal meetings, which fosters a comfortable environment,” he concluded.
