New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) Bas de Leede showcased an impressive all-round display as the Netherlands triumphed over Namibia by seven wickets in their Group A match during the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.

After being invited to bat first, Namibia managed to score 156/8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a disciplined bowling effort. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton was the top scorer with 42 runs, while both Gerhard Erasmus and JJ Smit provided brief contributions, yet none could turn their promising starts into significant innings.

The lack of substantial partnerships left Namibia unable to set a competitive total on a tricky pitch. Alongside de Leede, who claimed two wickets during the middle overs, Logan van Beek, Aryan Dutt, and Colin Ackermann also played vital roles in restricting Namibia's scoring.

De Leede spearheaded the chase with an unbeaten 72 runs off 48 deliveries, striking five fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 150. His explosive batting was complemented by intelligent strike rotation. His partnership with Colin Ackermann yielded 70 runs, setting the stage for captain Scott Edwards to help finish the game, as the Netherlands reached their target with two overs to spare.

This victory marks the Netherlands’ largest win by wickets in T20 World Cup history, coming as a necessary rebound following their close three-wicket loss to Pakistan in Colombo. Namibia will need to address missed opportunities and a batting performance that lacked momentum before facing defending champions India at the same venue on Thursday.

In the opening over, Dutt brought tension with a close run-out chance involving Louren Steenkamp, who barely survived after Edwards accidentally dislodged a bail while gathering the ball.

With Dutt generating turn and bounce, he stumped Steenkamp for six in his second over. Fred Klaassen came into the attack and saw Jan Frylinck initiate a brief counterattack, striking a four and a six.

Loftie-Eaton then began to accelerate, hitting Ackermann for a huge six and edging for four. Despite a couple of missed opportunities for run-outs, Namibia managed to build a 50-run partnership before van Beek dismissed Frylinck, who scored 30.

As Erasmus arrived, he attacked Timm van der Gugten with a six and two quick fours, but de Leede responded by dismissing him for 18, while van Beek also claimed Loftie-Eaton's wicket.

JJ Smit attempted to counterattack but fell to de Leede, who also contributed to a couple of run-outs, limiting Namibia's scoring in the final overs.

The Netherlands' chase began poorly with Max O’Dowd dismissed early, but Michael Levitt quickly took the initiative, smashing three sixes and a four.

De Leede signaled his intent with a powerful six off JJ Smit, and he and Ackermann formed a crucial partnership, rotating the strike effectively and punishing loose balls. Ackermann was dropped on 14, leading to further momentum for the Netherlands.

Ackermann launched a massive six off Max Heingo, while de Leede continued to dominate, hitting a towering six over midwicket to bring up the team's hundred.

Despite Ackermann's dismissal for 32, de Leede reached his fifty with a straight six and continued to score freely, showcasing his ability to handle pressure.

Edwards joined de Leede for the concluding phase, securing the win by hitting Loftie-Eaton for six and finishing the match with a cut shot past point.
