New Delhi, April 29 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has declared a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for the young cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who achieved a historic milestone by scoring a record-breaking century in the IPL 2025 on Monday.
The 14-year-old batting sensation, representing Rajasthan Royals, eclipsed the long-held record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian, overtaking Yusuf Pathan's remarkable 37-ball century against Mumbai Indians in 2010, a record that stood for 15 years until that fateful Monday night.
In his third IPL match, Suryavanshi blasted an incredible 101 runs off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, achieving his century in a mere 35 deliveries — the fastest by an Indian in IPL history and the second-fastest overall, trailing only Chris Gayle's legendary 30-ball century.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who has become the youngest player (14 years) to hit a century in IPL history. His hard work and talent have made him a beacon of hope for Indian cricket, and we are all immensely proud of him. I had the privilege of meeting Vaibhav and his father in 2024 at 1 Anne Marg, where I wished him a bright future,” CM Nitish shared on X.
Nitish also mentioned that he spoke to the young star over the phone after his outstanding performance and extended his heartfelt congratulations.
“Following his exceptional innings in IPL, I congratulated him via phone. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, our young cricketer from Bihar, will receive an honorarium of Rs 10 lakh from the state government. I hope that Vaibhav continues to set new records for the Indian team and brings pride to our nation,” he further added.
During the mega auction last year, Suryavanshi became the youngest player to secure an IPL contract when Rajasthan Royals signed him for Rs 1.1 crore.
