Patna, March 31 (NationPress) The president of Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), Rakesh Tiwari, has stated that the forthcoming President Cup is designed to offer a stage for gifted cricketers to demonstrate their skills in red-ball cricket within Bihar.

The BCA has unveiled the inaugural 'President Cup', commencing on April 1 in Patna. Tiwari emphasized that participating in this tournament will provide players with the essential exposure needed to advance their careers.

This tournament represents a crucial advancement in the BCA's mission to foster cricket in the state. It aims to create an avenue for talented cricketers to exhibit their prowess in red-ball cricket and gain significant exposure to further their professional journeys, said Tiwari.

The President Cup will adopt a 2/3-day format, featuring a total of 8 teams organized into two groups. These teams will be selected from various districts in Bihar, ensuring broad representation of players showcasing their talents.

Additionally, the BCA has launched a new initiative, ‘Search for Bowlers’. This program is geared towards identifying, training, and nurturing emerging fast-bowling and spin-bowling talent across Bihar, offering opportunities for cricketers aged 16 to 25 to enhance their skills and gain professional exposure.

The Director of Cricket Development and Operations, BCA, Anand Yalvigi, will collaborate with former Indian cricketers Venkatapathy Raju and Salil Ankola to scout unique spin-bowling and hidden fast-bowling talents within the state.

Venkatapathy Raju brings extensive coaching experience, having served on the coaching panels of various teams, while Ankola has played 20 ODIs for India, taking 13 wickets.

The 'Search for Bowlers' initiative will launch with a talent identification camp at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna, scheduled from May 2 to May 7.

During this camp, local selectors and coaches, supervised by the cricket director, will conduct initial player screenings. In the concluding phase, two former Test cricketers, who have also served as national selectors, will assess the shortlisted candidates.

A total of 10 fast bowlers and 10 spinners will be selected to undergo rigorous training sessions, with their progress monitored closely in preparation for state team selection.

Participants in this initiative must be aged between 16 and 25, must not be competing in the ‘President Cup 2025’, and must be permanent residents of Bihar.
