New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has expressed his unwavering support for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), considering them strong contenders for the IPL 2025 championship after their victory against Mumbai Indians by 12 runs on Tuesday night at Wankhede Stadium, marking their first win over them in a decade.

Rayudu believes that this could be the year the franchise finally realizes its potential and secures its first-ever IPL title, bringing an end to an 18-year wait.

"When you analyze their squad, you’ll see they have a well-established combination. Unlike teams that are struggling in the IPL, which are still experimenting with their line-ups, RCB, along with Delhi Capitals (DC) and somewhat Punjab Kings (PBKS), have solidified their combinations for this season.

"I’ve always appreciated their style of play. We often joke about RCB, mainly because teams like DC and PBKS don’t get as much attention. RCB consistently has the potential to clinch the IPL, yet they fall short due to their own limitations. It's never about being outplayed by others; it's their own missteps. However, this year, under Rajat Patidar's captaincy, ee sala cup RCB de (this year the cup belongs to RCB)."

Currently, RCB is positioned third in the points table, trailing only Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans based on net run-rate, with three victories out of four matches, all achieved away from home.

Rayudu was particularly impressed with Patidar’s strategic choices during their tense win over Mumbai Indians, where RCB defended a substantial total of 222, despite MI appearing in control at 170/4 in the 16th over.

"For me, the most significant highlight of that captaincy during those 20 overs was bringing in Bhuvi early. Typically, you expect Bhuvi to bowl in the 19th or 20th over. However, introducing him early was a brilliant decision when they desperately needed experience to regain control of the match," Rayudu remarked.
