Chennai, April 22 (NationPress) Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube has made a significant contribution to aspiring athletes in Tamil Nadu by donating Rs 7 lakh during the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists’ Association (TNSJA) Awards and Scholarships event held on Tuesday.

Dube, who served as the chief guest at the occasion, presented ₹70,000 each to ten talented athletes from diverse sports disciplines in a heartwarming surprise. The TNSJA had initially awarded ₹30,000 scholarships to each of these ten athletes, acknowledging their accomplishments and potential.

The recipients included PB Abhinandh (table tennis), K.S. Vhenisa Sree (archery), Muthumeena Vellasami (para athletics), Shameena Riaz (squash), S. Nandhana and Jayant R.K. (cricket), Kamali P. (surfing), R. Abinaya and R.C. Jithin Arjunan (athletics), and A. Takkshanth (chess).

Moved by this initiative, Dube addressed the audience, stating, “This event is genuinely uplifting for young athletes. Their early successes fuel their motivation to strive harder and bring pride to the nation. I have witnessed such initiatives in Mumbai and will endeavor to support similar programs elsewhere.”

He further mentioned that even modest amounts and recognition can significantly impact an athlete’s early journey. “This ₹30,000 may appear small, but it acts as encouragement. When you are young, every rupee and every accolade truly counts,” added Dube, who has played four One-day Internationals and 35 T20I matches for India thus far.

The athletes, their families, and the audience were deeply moved by Dube’s generous act. The 31-year-old cricketer from Mumbai received widespread appreciation from sports officials and fans alike for transcending the role of a guest and becoming a proactive advocate for grassroots sports development.

Since 2022, Shivam Dube has represented Chennai Super Kings, where he recently played against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, scoring a half-century. However, his Mumbai teammates Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav also delivered impressive half-centuries, leading the local side to victory over the fellow five-time IPL champions.
