Chattogram, Oct 28 (NationPress) Bangladesh all-rounder Tanzim Hasan Sakib expressed that their batting display fell short of expectations, which led to their defeat against the West Indies in the inaugural T20I on Monday.
Bangladesh missed the chance to secure a 1-0 advantage in the three-match T20I series, falling short by 16 runs while pursuing a target of 165.
The home side experienced an early collapse, losing four wickets within the powerplay and plunging to 57 for 5. Despite a late resurgence from Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Nasum Ahmed, who stabilized the innings, Bangladesh ultimately succumbed, being bowled out for 149 in 19.4 overs.
"They batted later in the innings. It felt encouraging as the dew set in during the latter part of the innings. We lost the match in the PowerPlay since we lost four wickets in the first six overs," Tanzim, who scored a brisk 33 off 27 balls, informed reporters post-match.
"Nonetheless, we could have clinched victory if we had batted more effectively during the middle overs, as the field was open and there were ample opportunities for singles and twos. Most of the batsmen got out before settling in. The middle order should have assumed greater responsibility. If they had batted longer and rotated the strike, perhaps the outcome would have been different," he added.
"I genuinely wish I could have seen us through. Batting alongside Nasum Bhai bolstered my confidence. The ball was coming onto the bat nicely. Had I batted a bit longer, we still had Rishad to follow. There will undoubtedly be some regret about that. If we had one established batsman, it might have been easier, as needing 30 runs in the last two overs is always manageable with a set batsman on the crease," he stated.
Both teams will compete again in the second T20I at the same venue on Wednesday.
