Tour Championship 2024: Exceptional lineup to conclude PGTI season

Jamshedpur, Dec 18 (NationPress) Leading Indian golf talents like defending champion Gaganjeet Bhullar, who has previously triumphed in 2020 and 2023, SSP Chawrasia, and Om Prakash Chouhan, the 2023 PGTI Ranking champion, are among the top contenders at the PGTI Tour Championship taking place at the Beldih and Golmuri golf courses in Jamshedpur from December 19 to 22.

This tournament, organized by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) in collaboration with the Tata Steel Group, boasts a prize fund of INR 3 crore, marking it as the largest prize purse in PGTI history. An elite group of 62 professionals will participate in this final event of the 2024 PGTI season. The competition is structured as a 72-hole stroke-play championship, ensuring that all players will receive guaranteed prize money as no cut will be enforced.

The tournament format deviates from the conventional setup. Throughout all four rounds, half of the field will start at Golmuri for their first nine holes and conclude at Beldih, while the other half will do the reverse. From the second round onward, the top half of the leaderboard will follow the same first nine at Golmuri and second nine at Beldih. The award ceremony will take place at the Beldih Golf Club on Sunday, December 22.

This event brings together a remarkable roster that includes some of the most prominent figures in Indian golf, such as Gaganjeet Bhullar, SSP Chawrasia, Om Prakash Chouhan, Veer Ahlawat (current PGTI Ranking leader), former champion Udayan Mane (2019 & 2021 champion), Rahil Gangjee, Manu Gandas, and Yuvraj Sandhu, among others.

The 2024 PGTI Ranking champion will be revealed after the tournament concludes, with the top player receiving a full card for the DP World Tour during the 2024 season.

D.B Sundara Ramam, Vice President of the Raw Materials Division at Tata Steel and Jamshedpur Golf Captain, stated, “At Tata Steel, we have consistently supported sports as a means to inspire excellence and strengthen communities. By hosting the PGTI tournament in Jamshedpur this year, we reaffirm our dedication to promoting golf and providing a platform for athletes to display their skills. As the Jamshedpur Golf Captain, I take immense pride in witnessing this championship on our greens, highlighting our city’s strong bond with the sport. We anticipate a thrilling weekend filled with remarkable performances and camaraderie among players and golf enthusiasts.”

Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of PGTI, remarked, “The season's premier event, featuring the top 60 players from the current Order of Merit along with special invitees, promises to deliver yet another thrilling week of golf as a stellar lineup descends upon the magnificent venues of Beldih & Golmuri in Jamshedpur to compete for the largest prize of the season. This event generates heightened interest among golf fans nationwide as it will also determine the 2024 TATA Steel PGTI Ranking champion. We wish all the players the best of luck.”

The Beldih and Golmuri golf courses are both visually stunning, well-maintained, and lushly green, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Dalma Hills. While the Beldih Golf Course features extensive fairways, Golmuri Golf Course stands out as a smaller, greener, boutique course that leaves little room for error for the golfers.
