Have 30,000 Houses Been Built in Doda Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Dec 22 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a flagship program initiated by the Modi government, is playing a crucial role in achieving the housing aspirations of impoverished and marginalized families throughout the nation by offering them financial support to construct their own dream homes.
Under the PMAY (Grameen) initiative, families residing in rural areas are constructing their own homes, while the PMAY (Urban) program assists those living in cities to develop their residences.
In the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, nearly 30,000 houses have been successfully constructed under the PMAY, bringing immense joy to beneficiaries who are now able to enjoy all-weather housing.
According to recent evaluations, the original target was set significantly higher; however, as of now, 29,197 PMAY houses have been completed, leaving 1,215 houses in various stages of construction.
This delay is attributed to beneficiaries who did not commence construction after receiving their payments.
As stated by Din Mohammed Afaqi, the Assistant Commissioner of Development in Doda, those with pending constructions have been urged to hasten their building efforts to meet deadlines.
Angraiz Singh, a resident of Doda district who benefited from PMAY, expressed, "Previously, five families resided in a single house. When the PMAY initiative was launched, my name was included on the list. The assistance from the government facilitated our journey to build our own home, supplemented by our contributions as well."
Notably, all homes constructed under the PMAY are equipped with essential amenities including toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and tap water, achieved through collaboration with other central and state government schemes.
This initiative is operational in both urban and rural settings. In urban locations, it is managed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, while in rural areas, the Ministry of Rural Development oversees its implementation.
