Doda Achieves Second Place in Jammu Region with Over 25,000 Houses Constructed Under PMAY

Doda, Dec 25 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), launched in 2016, has introduced remarkable changes in the lives of individuals throughout the country. Residents of border states have also reaped the rewards of this initiative.

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Doda stands out for its effective execution of the scheme and is proactive in reaching its beneficiaries. Currently, it holds the position of second in the Jammu province and eighth across the entire Union Territory regarding PMAY implementation.

As per official data, over 30,000 houses have received approval under the PMAY initiative. Out of this, approximately 26,000 houses have been completed, while construction is ongoing for more than 4,000 houses.

Providing details about the scheme's rollout, Doda's Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Manoj Kumar, informed IANS that 30,404 PMAY houses have been approved thus far, with construction in progress on 4,404 houses.

He also mentioned that recovery actions will commence for individuals who have not started building their homes after receiving government support.

Explaining the scheme, he stated, “This initiative is aimed at the houseless and those residing in kuccha houses. Numerous families have registered for the scheme. The beneficiaries who have registered have received governmental support to construct their own homes. Those who were excluded in previous phases can reapply under the PMAY program.”

“Government assistance is transferred directly into the beneficiaries’ accounts. This has enhanced their social status and overall quality of life,” he added.

Under the PMAY initiative, many individuals in Jammu and Kashmir are experiencing significant advantages. Joginder Prakash, a resident of Malwas Block in Bhagwah district of Doda, is one of the many beneficiaries who successfully constructed his home through the scheme.

Previously, Joginder Prakash and his family lived in a shed and faced numerous challenges. However, with the construction of his house under the PMAY program, his entire family now enjoys a better quality of life under one roof.
