Housing Aspirations of Jabalpur's Underprivileged Realized Under PMAY

Jabalpur, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has introduced various welfare programs that are providing significant advantages to the underprivileged. As a result, many grateful beneficiaries are expressing their heartfelt thanks to PM Modi.

One notable initiative is the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), targeting both rural and urban sectors, which is helping individuals realize their dreams of owning a home. Families that previously resided in mud houses are now enjoying the comfort of pucca (concrete) homes through this initiative.

According to official data presented in the Lok Sabha, over 88.22 lakh houses have been allocated to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) as of November 25, 2024.

In the district of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, countless beneficiaries have availed themselves of this scheme.

Amar Singh Patel, who lived with his family near the Ranjhi Talaiya Hanuman Temple in the Jabalpur Cantonment for 50 years, transitioned from a kutcha house to a proud owner of a concrete home. His life was transformed after learning about the housing scheme initiated by the Prime Minister through local MLA and workers. He took advantage of the program and upgraded his kutcha house to a pucca one.

Expressing his gratitude toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Patel remarked to IANS, “I wish to thank and congratulate PM Modi for this initiative.”

Urmila Patel, another recipient of the program, also extended her thanks to PM Modi for the positive change in her family's life. She had spent nearly 50 years living in a kutcha house before PMAY transformed her living conditions.

On December 5, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu stated in the Lok Sabha that under PMAY-U, which commenced on June 25, 2015, a total of 118.64 lakh houses have been sanctioned, with 114.22 lakh grounded and over 88.22 lakh delivered to beneficiaries.

Sahu further noted that building on the experiences from PMAY-U, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched PMAY-U 2.0 ‘Housing for All’ Mission on September 1, 2024. This initiative aims to provide central assistance to an additional one crore households from the EWS/LIG/MIG categories to construct, buy, or rent homes at affordable prices in urban locales nationwide.

To date, 29 States/UTs have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to roll out PMAY-U 2.0 in accordance with the scheme's guidelines. The total investment is pegged at Rs 10 lakh crore, which includes a government subsidy of Rs 2.30 lakh crore, as stated by the Minister of State.
