Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, expressed his appreciation for the Union Budget for 2026-27 on Sunday, highlighting its significant provisions for the state.
In a statement via his official X account, LoP Adhikari remarked, "This Union Budget has ignited a spark of optimism among the residents of West Bengal. It presents a comprehensive investment strategy aimed at infrastructure development that will facilitate a wave of industrial growth."
Discussing the state's proposed initiatives, BJP leader Adhikari noted, "The establishment of the nation's first coastal corridor -- the East Coast Industrial Corridor -- will connect Tamil Nadu to Durgapur in West Bengal, integrating ports, national highways, railways, and industrial hubs. This will create a unique industrial corridor, promoting a conducive environment for industrial ventures in Bengal."
He further stated that the planned 'Dedicated Freight Corridor from Dankuni to Surat' will significantly boost West Bengal's industrialization prospects.
"Additionally, the high-speed rail corridor from Varanasi to Siliguri is designed to achieve similar goals," he added.
LoP Adhikari also pointed out that the Central government had made crucial modifications to the personal income tax framework last year, exempting income up to Rs 12 lakh from taxation.
"Major concessions in the GST have also led to a substantial decrease in the market prices of goods, which the common populace is already benefiting from," he stated.
The BJP Nandigram MLA described the Union Budget as "people-oriented", focusing on the overall enhancement of various sectors.
"This budget, centered on the needs of the populace, has been designed with the welfare of every societal segment in mind -- from increasing farmers' earnings, empowering women, creating job opportunities for the youth, to facilitating overall development. The primary objectives of this budget are to boost exports, attract foreign investments, and generate employment. These initiatives will strengthen the Indian economy and foster self-reliance amidst the prevailing global economic trade conflicts," he elaborated.
Simultaneously, the BJP leader urged for the removal of the Trinamool Congress government in the state to fully realize the advantages of these initiatives.
"How can these benefits truly reach the citizens of Bengal? As long as the corrupt Trinamool Congress government is in power, the citizens will not experience the genuine benefits of this welfare-focused budget from the Central government. It is imperative to remove this thoroughly corrupt state government and establish a double-engine government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Only with collaborative efforts between the Central and state governments can Bengal's economy rejuvenate and advance in terms of industry and employment," concluded LoP Adhikari.
