Kolkata, June 2 (NationPress) Suvendu Adhikari, currently serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, is set to take on new organisational roles within the BJP as the party gears up for the pivotal state elections in 2026. A prominent member of the BJP's state committee disclosed that during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Kolkata, he engaged in two meetings with the party's state leadership to formulate a strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections.
During these discussions, a suggestion was made to assign Adhikari additional responsibilities to fill gaps in crucial areas where the BJP believes it can secure a significant advantage over the ruling Trinamool Congress, the committee member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, reported.
Areas that may fall under Adhikari’s purview include constituencies in north Bengal, his home district of East Midnapore, and tribal regions in West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia, and parts of adjacent Jharkhand.
His main objective will be to enhance the grassroots organisational framework in these regions and prepare them for campaigning.
“Adhikari is already extensively touring, focusing on areas where BJP supporters and members of the Hindu community have reportedly faced significant challenges. His itinerary is anticipated to intensify in the near future,” the leader added.
Furthermore, the committee member indicated that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit last week, and Amit Shah, on Sunday, outlined the central themes for the BJP’s campaign in Bengal. These themes aim to critique the ruling Trinamool Congress and the state government across various governance and law-and-order issues.
“To effectively carry out the campaign strategy set forth by the Prime Minister and Home Minister, Adhikari will now assume a more prominent organisational role,” he concluded.
