Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) - Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Tuesday that should the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gain power in West Bengal in the forthcoming Assembly elections later this month, a lasting political resolution for the regions of Darjeeling, Kurseong, and Kalimong will be established without detaching these areas from the state.
"We will address the political aspirations of our Gorkha community without the need to separate the hills from West Bengal. Furthermore, the comprehensive development of North Bengal will be our paramount concern. We plan to develop four significant townships in the North Bengal region," the Union Home Minister proclaimed at a campaign rally in Gangarampur, located in the West Dinajpur district.
However, Amit Shah did not elaborate on how this permanent political resolution would be realized, especially considering the predominant demand for the establishment of a separate Gorkhaland.
During the rally, Shah also outlined additional commitments for the advancement of North Bengal. These pledges include the establishment of one Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), one Indian Institute of Management (IIM), a sports university, a tribal university, an eco-adventure hub, and a 600-bed cancer hospital specifically for the region.
Additionally, he announced the inclusion of the Rajbongshi language, which is widely spoken in North Bengal, into the 8th Schedule.
While addressing the audience, the Union Home Minister reiterated accusations against the Mamata BanerjeeBorder Security Force (BSF) for constructing barbed fencing along the unprotected borders with Bangladesh.
"If the BJP assumes power in West Bengal, we will ensure that the land is allocated to the BSF within 45 days. The BJP is committed to expelling all infiltrators from West Bengal and the rest of the nation, as they pose a threat to our security and are depriving our youth of job opportunities. They are consuming the resources intended for the underprivileged," Amit Shah asserted.
