Jaipur, Aug 30 (NationPress) Self-proclaimed spiritual leader Asaram, currently serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor, voluntarily surrendered at Jodhpur Central Jail on Saturday morning. He arrived at approximately 10 a.m., in the company of his legal team and supporters.
On Wednesday, the Rajasthan High Court denied an extension of his interim bail, asserting that his health was stable and did not necessitate ongoing medical supervision or hospitalization.
A division bench, comprising Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Vineet Kumar Mathur, based their decision on a medical report from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, which indicated that Asaram's health issues were not severe enough to justify further leniency.
The court highlighted that Asaram had been treated in various hospitals over the past three to four months, including facilities in AIIMS Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Indore, Jaipur, and Rishikesh. However, he failed to maintain consistent follow-ups at any single institution.
The bench also dismissed the claims made by Asaram's lawyer, Nishant Bora, who contended that doctors from AIIMS Jodhpur had reported a decline in his health on August 21.
According to the medical board's findings, six doctors evaluated Asaram on August 18 and confirmed that his condition was stable.
The court further noted that numerous consultations and hospital visits did not suggest any immediate medical crisis.
Asaram had received bail for the first time in 12 years in January 2025, with his interim bail lasting approximately seven and a half months before it was revoked by the High Court.
During this bail period, Asaram was reunited with his son Narayan Sai for the first time in 11 years.
Narayan Sai, who is currently imprisoned in Surat jail, was granted permission to visit his father at the Pal village Ashram in Jodhpur on June 25.
With his surrender, Asaram has returned to serving his life sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail, marking the end of a brief period of freedom after over a decade in custody.
