Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 12 (NationPress) The atmosphere in Belagavi was electrifying as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officially opened a remarkable state-level exhibition and sales venue at the storied Sardar Maidan. This event, organized by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, transformed into a vibrant tribute to creativity, culture, and the empowerment of women.
Stalls adorned with colorful decorations spanned the grounds, each displaying distinctive handmade products created by women involved in self-help groups under the National Rural Livelihood Mission.
The exhibition showcased an abundance of artisan talents, featuring an array of items for sale, including vibrant bags, intricately woven baskets, and warm blankets. Additionally, attendees could find mats, clothing, and various homemade items. Enthusiastic crowds from across the district came to support these women and purchase their exquisitely crafted products.
A notable participant, Yenkanna Sudha, traveled from Kedakal village in Kodagu. Her stall attracted curious visitors with an appealing display of local wines, including red, white, chili, and pineapple flavors.
She conveyed to the IANS team how the exhibition was facilitating the introduction of regional specialties to a broader audience. Alongside her wines, she discussed traditional homemade items such as Ole and Jumuke, tools utilized by women in her community.
Adjacent to her stall, Ashwini Mangaley excitedly showcased a diverse range of products, including handcrafted jewelry, purses, table mats, and rangoli designs, all created by women from her locality. She proudly mentioned that many of these items are now available online, allowing the women to reach customers far beyond their district.
Adding to the variety, Shobha from Kodagu presented a selection of homemade wines priced at Rs 650 per bottle, along with mushroom pickle, spices, honey, jam, and fresh passion fruit. She shared that setting up a stall in Belagavi was a fresh experience filled with excitement. “I want to see how the business operates here. This is my first time, and I’m eager to learn,” she expressed with a hopeful smile.
Women visiting the fair were equally thrilled, many expressing satisfaction over discovering such a wide array of homemade goods all in one location. For them, the exhibition represented more than just a shopping opportunity; it was a celebration of women's entrepreneurship and creativity.
