Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 14 (NationPress) Following the concerns raised by Sunil Kumar Singh, a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) representing the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), regarding a missing girl and alleged misconduct by police officials, Vinay Kumar, the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP), assured on Saturday that stringent measures will be implemented against any officer found culpable.
The issue was brought up during the Bihar Legislative Council proceedings on Friday, where RJD representatives criticized the Bihar Police for their alleged lack of sensitivity towards the public.
Sunil Kumar Singh pointed out the case of a girl who had disappeared from the Ram Krishna Nagar area in Patna, accusing the police of registering the case only after a significant delay and making inappropriate comments towards the victim's family.
According to Singh, police reportedly told the family of the missing girl that she would return after “having fun” for a month or two, a remark that incited outrage within the Assembly.
In response to the uproar, DGP Vinay Kumar stated that the situation was tied to a land dispute and is currently under investigation.
“If any police officer has behaved in an inappropriate or insensitive way, stringent action will follow,” he affirmed.
The incident has sparked a political uproar, with opposition leaders launching pointed critiques at the state government.
Purnea Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, condemned the police's behavior, asserting that such remarks regarding missing girls are intolerable in any context.
The Bihar Police faces growing scrutiny amid a series of reported crimes against girls in the state.
Notable incidents include the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant who was found unconscious and died in a private hospital on January 11, with post-mortem and forensic reports indicating that sexual assault could not be ruled out.
The unresolved case, which eluded the police, Special Investigation Team, and Crime Investigation Department, has now been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Other alarming occurrences include the brutal sexual assault and murder of a six-year-old girl in Darbhanga and the mysterious fall of a 17-year-old girl from a fourth-floor coaching institute in Patna, with her family alleging foul play.
