Patna, July 30 (NationPress) As concerns escalate regarding the surge in criminal activities throughout Bihar, the Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has cited inadequate parenting and a decline in social responsibility as significant factors contributing to this issue.
During a program at the Bihar Police Headquarters in Patna, commemorating World Anti-Human Trafficking Day, the DGP openly discussed the various challenges confronting law enforcement within the state.
DGP Kumar remarked that although the police are dedicated to combating crime and have achieved considerable success in seizing illegal weapons, the foundations of criminal behavior stem from the home and the community.
“The difference between right and wrong begins within the family. If an eight-year-old is found manipulating weapons, we must ask: Where are the parents? When parents fail in their duties, children are likely to veer toward crime,” he expressed.
He emphasized that once individuals become part of the criminal justice system and serve time in prison, the chances of rehabilitation become significantly more challenging.
The DGP underscored that schools and the wider community also hold crucial responsibilities in instilling values and discipline in children.
“Educational institutions play a vital role. Society must also embrace its responsibilities. Only through the collaborative efforts of families, schools, and communities can we deter youth from engaging in criminal activities,” he stated.
In defending the police department’s efficacy, the DGP highlighted a marked increase in the confiscation of illegal firearms, noting ongoing initiatives to dismantle criminal organizations.
In response to recent assaults on police officers, he remarked: “Police personnel are here to serve and protect the public. Assaulting them is wholly unjustifiable. The police are not the source of these incidents but are instead a force striving to avert them.”
On the occasion of World Anti-Human Trafficking Day, the DGP also brought attention to another pressing concern—the alarming rise in human trafficking, which he characterized as the second largest illegal enterprise following narcotics.
“Human trafficking still hasn’t gained the priority it deserves compared to other crimes. However, it is an extensive and perilous trade,” he stated.
He disclosed disturbing findings regarding the trafficking of children from India, who are being sold to networks in China and Nepal, where they are reportedly exploited for cybercrime operations along the Indo-China border.
“It is alarming that a considerable number of trafficked Indian children are ending up as cybercriminals under Chinese influence. This issue requires immediate national focus,” DGP Kumar stressed.
