New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) The BJP has launched a robust critique against the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his noticeable absence at the swearing-in ceremony of CP Radhakrishnan as the 15th Vice President of India. They have accused him of disregarding constitutional and democratic norms, citing a pattern of neglect towards national responsibilities.
In a statement to IANS, BJP's National General Secretary Tarun Chugh expressed: “The consistent absence of the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, from Vice President’s swearing-in ceremonies constitutes a blatant violation of constitutional and democratic values. His absence—whether intentional or simply symbolic—demonstrates a recurring neglect towards national duties and constitutional roles. He has become a habitual offender, persistently dodging his obligations as Leader of Opposition.”
Mumbai BJP President and MLA Ameet Satam reflected similar sentiments, stating: “The opposition's lack of understanding of constitutional and democratic decorum is evident. Even during the swearing-in of such a significant constitutional position, their absence is telling of their true values, traditions, and culture.”
Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin added: “The Congress party shows a lack of trust in constitutional institutions. If they genuinely respected India’s Constitution, they would honor the electoral process and the Election Commission, the Supreme Court, and other constitutional bodies.”
On the other hand, opposition representatives responded with a tempered view. Anand Dubey, spokesperson for Shiv Sena (UBT), mentioned: “Rahul Gandhi bears immense responsibility as the Leader of the Opposition. His tight schedule might have prevented him from attending the oath ceremony, but that shouldn't be construed as disrespect towards the Vice President. He plans to meet C.P. Radhakrishnan soon to extend his congratulations, which is a customary political gesture. Absence does not equate to arrogance.”
Radhakrishnan took the oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath. The ceremony saw the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice Presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar and Venkaiah Naidu, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Union Ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, along with various state leaders.
In the election, Radhakrishnan outperformed opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy by gathering 452 first preference votes. Prior to assuming the Vice President's role, Radhakrishnan resigned as Governor of Maharashtra.
