'BJP MLA Accuses Trinamool of Anti-Hindu Bias and Vote-Banking'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Asansol (West Bengal), March 26 (NationPress) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Agnimitra Paul criticized the Trinamool Congress on Thursday, labeling it as "anti-Hindu" and suggesting it exploits the "Muslim community for electoral gains."
Her comments were in response to a midnight demonstration in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, led by Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, regarding alleged police interference with Ram Navami festivities.
Adhikari is the BJP's candidate for the constituency, where he is facing off against Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister and head of the Trinamool Congress.
In an interview with IANS, Paul stated, "The Trinamool Congress has a history of being anti-Hindu, and for the last 15 years, there have been numerous injustices against Hindus to convey a message to a certain community. It’s clear who I’m referring to."
"They (Trinamool) exhibit favoritism towards the Muslim community to maintain their vote bank. However, even Muslims have begun to realize that Mamata Banerjee has exploited them for votes without providing any genuine support," she added.
Paul further accused the Trinamool Congress of politicizing the Ram Navami celebration.
"Hindus are required to obtain permission to celebrate Durga Puja and to hold the Ram Navami rally in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee deliberately engages in actions that offend Hindu feelings to appease the Muslim community. This is a disgraceful form of politics. The Trinamool has engaged in this appeasement for the past 15 years," she remarked.
"If they (Trinamool) had focused on serving the people beyond religious lines, the Trinamool Congress would be in a much stronger position today," she continued.
Paul emphasized, "The people of Bengal are now calling for a change because the Trinamool has prioritized religious politics. This is why, just yesterday, the setup for Ram Navami celebrations was not permitted."
She also criticized the local police, stating, "The police, especially the senior officials, lack independence. They merely follow orders from the Chief Minister. The junior officers, however, are more open to change."
"As a result, individuals in Bengal, regardless of their religious beliefs, are yearning for transformation this time," she concluded.
Meanwhile, Bengal's LoP Suvendu Adhikari participated in a Ram Navami procession in Bhabanipur.
