Kolkata, April 9 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials examining the horrific rape and murder of a female junior doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, which occurred on the hospital grounds in August of last year, have interrogated the institution's current principal, Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay, and vice-principal, Saptarshi Chatterjee.

As reported, the questioning took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sources close to the situation revealed that these inquiries are part of the CBI's second phase of investigation, focusing on the potential tampering and alteration of evidence during the preliminary investigation conducted by Kolkata police before the case was transferred to the CBI following an order from the Calcutta High Court.

On Tuesday, CBI officials also interrogated the security supervisor of R.G. Kar. In the upcoming days, it is expected that investigators will question everyone present in the post-mortem room during the autopsy of the victim’s body.

The next session in this case at the Calcutta High Court is scheduled for April 23.

It remains to be seen whether the CBI’s counsel will present any new findings in court based on the latest interviews.

The recent hearings began after the Supreme Court approved the plea from the victim’s parents for the case to be reviewed again at the Calcutta High Court.

During the initial day of the renewed hearings last month, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh instructed the CBI to clarify whether the incident was classified as “rape & murder” or “gang-rape & murder”.

However, on the second day, the CBI’s counsel informed the court that the case was indeed one of “rape & murder” and that the focus of the second inquiry was on the matter of evidence tampering in this case.
