The Chief Minister had previously traveled to the national capital on March 31 after being summoned by the Union Home Minister.
According to the CMO official, during the meeting at the Parliament House complex on Wednesday, the Union Home Minister urged the Chief Minister to expedite the ongoing peace process and to further enhance the improving relations among various communities within the state. A thorough review of the law and order scenario in Manipur was conducted during this meeting.
The Union Home Minister also provided in-principle approval for the establishment of a new Manipur Rifles unit (the Mahila unit of the India Reserve Battalion) and requested the Chief Minister to submit a formal proposal for its formation.
On February 22, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, met with the Union Home Minister to discuss several critical issues, including the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence.
