Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has made a significant decision to rejuvenate its Law, Human Rights, and RTI Departments, which will be enhanced at the district level throughout the nation, as disclosed in a statement on Wednesday.
As per the statement, every administrative district will be assigned a team comprising at least five distinguished lawyers who will oversee departmental functions and manage legal proceedings on behalf of the party.
In a press conference, AICC Law, Human Rights, and RTI Department Chairman Abhishek Manu Singhvi declared that this initiative forms part of the party’s broader organizational development plan spearheaded by senior figures, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
“These lawyers will serve as our eyes and ears in the localities,” Singhvi emphasized during the briefing.
He also mentioned that the department will establish a ‘Rapid Response Force’ in every state, consisting of at least five prominent lawyers, ready to promptly address legal issues pertaining to the party in their respective jurisdictions.
Singhvi further noted that the meeting also resolved to create a detailed, computerized, state-by-state alphabetical directory of department members from all over the country.
In an effort to involve younger professionals, he announced that the department will initiate an internship scheme targeting individuals aged 21 to 28 who are not currently affiliated with the Congress. Initially, one or two interns will be assigned to each of the party’s 127 Members of Parliament, with future plans to broaden the initiative to the MLA level.
The meeting saw the participation of senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and 11 state chairpersons, who joined both in person and virtually.
“I express gratitude to everyone who participated in the meeting. We had representatives from across India, and we aim to consolidate these efforts for another gathering where we will present this to Congress President Kharge and LoP Rahul Gandhi shortly,” Singh said.
