Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 6 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has accused the DMK government of being involved in corruption worth Rs 4 lakh crore since it took office. On Tuesday, he presented a comprehensive memorandum to Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi demanding a thorough investigation into these allegations.
During the meeting at the Governor's residence in Guindy, Chennai, Palaniswami provided a dossier detailing alleged corruption across various government departments since 2021.
The AIADMK leader claimed that the document contains department-specific information about irregularities, backed by what he referred to as sufficient and credible evidence.
Accompanying Palaniswami were several senior AIADMK leaders, including former ministers K. P. Munusamy, Natham Viswanathan, Thangamani, S.P. Velumani, D. Jayakumar, and C.V. Shanmugam.
The delegation urged the Governor to initiate or recommend a detailed investigation into the alleged scams, highlighting what they described as systemic corruption observed over the last four years.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Palaniswami criticized the ruling DMK for failing to provide any substantial benefits to the citizens of Tamil Nadu.
He emphasized that over the past four years, the DMK government has prioritized corruption over public welfare.
Furthermore, he asserted that corruption is widespread in multiple departments, with the magnitude of financial irregularities necessitating an immediate and unbiased inquiry.
Palaniswami mentioned that the AIADMK had submitted an extensive list along with supporting documents, insisting that the availability of evidence makes a thorough investigation vital for transparency and accountability.
The AIADMK leader also questioned the government's decision not to distribute Rs 5,000 in cash along with the Pongal gift hampers.
He queried why the DMK administration had not met public expectations for festive aid, especially when they have repeatedly emphasized welfare commitments.
In response to similar allegations, the DMK government has maintained its focus on social justice, development, and governance that prioritizes welfare.
However, Palaniswami has stated that the AIADMK will persist in demanding accountability and will utilize all appropriate constitutional avenues until a proper investigation is conducted. The Governor has yet to publicly respond to the memorandum.
