Guwahati, March 16 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has mandated the transfer and assignment of five IPS officers in Assam as part of efforts to facilitate the free and fair execution of the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.

In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary of Assam, the Commission instructed the immediate relocation and assignment of the officers across various districts after evaluating the election readiness for the 2026 Assembly elections.

As per the directive, IPS officer Somalin Shubhdarshini from the 2019 batch will serve as the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Majuli, while R. Sheetal Kumar from the 2020 batch has been designated as SP for South Salmara.

Additionally, IPS officer Anchal Chauhan (2020 batch) has been appointed as SP of Sadiya.

Furthermore, Sudhakar Singh from the 2013 batch will now serve as SP of Chirang, and Mohan Lal Meena from the 2016 batch is assigned as SP for Dhemaji.

The Election Commission emphasized that these transfers were executed following a review of election preparations in Assam in anticipation of the Assembly elections scheduled for next month.

The Commission has mandated the immediate execution of these transfers and has requested that the state government provide a compliance report confirming the officers' joining by 11 a.m. on March 17.

Moreover, the Commission has instructed that officers who are being transferred out should not take on any election-related duties until after the electoral process concludes.

This directive aligns with the Election Commission’s standard procedures during elections, aimed at safeguarding administrative neutrality and averting any potential conflicts of interest throughout the voting process.

Assam will conduct elections for all 126 Assembly constituencies in a single phase on April 9, with the vote counting set for May 4.

The Election Commission continues to issue several administrative guidelines and deploy observers to monitor the electoral process and uphold transparency during the elections.
