Key Takeaways
Lucknow, March 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, emphasized on Sunday that the empowerment of women is crucial for fostering a self-sufficient society.
Speaking at a gathering to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, Adityanath cited the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that a society cannot thrive by overlooking half of its population.
"Prime Minister Modi consistently asserts that progress is unattainable if half the population is neglected," he remarked.
Reflecting on the government’s initiatives for women, he mentioned that since assuming office in 2014, the Prime Minister has launched the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme aimed at enhancing the safety and education of girls nationwide.
The Chief Minister noted that various other programs, such as the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, have been introduced to bolster women’s welfare and empowerment. According to him, as a result of these initiatives, daughters across India are progressively advancing towards self-sufficiency.
Adityanath also emphasized that in the near future, women will gain enhanced representation in governance. "Very soon, daughters and sisters will occupy 33 percent of the seats in state assemblies and Parliament, a provision already established by Prime Minister Modi," he stated.
On the topic of women’s safety in Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister affirmed that the state government is committed to creating a secure environment for girls and women.
"During my travels across Uttar Pradesh, I observe daughters attending school with confidence and without fear. Ensuring their safety is a governmental obligation," he declared.
To combat past threats to women’s safety, the government has allocated 20 percent of positions for women in the Uttar Pradesh Police and has conducted extensive recruitment drives, he added.
Reflecting on historical data, the Chief Minister indicated that from 1947 to 2017, the Uttar Pradesh Police had merely around 10,000 female personnel. "However, since 2017, that figure has surged to over 44,000," he noted, deeming it a monumental move towards strengthening both women’s empowerment and security in the state.
