Patna, March 22 (NationPress) Five police officers sustained injuries during a violent confrontation with a notorious criminal in the Araria district of Bihar on Saturday morning. This criminal is implicated in several heists targeting Tanishq showrooms across the state. The clash took place at Dhalha Canal, within the jurisdiction of Narpatganj police station.

A coordinated operation was executed by the Araria STF along with district police to capture Chunmun Jha, a criminal on the run.

As law enforcement approached the Dhalha canal, Chunmun Jha attempted to escape, resulting in an intense gunfight with the officers. Although Jha was ultimately subdued, five police personnel suffered injuries in the process. Chunmun Jha also incurred gunshot wounds during the encounter.

This individual is a fugitive linked to significant criminal activities, including the heist cases at the Purnea and Ara Tanishq showrooms.

He has a reputation for committing serious crimes across multiple districts, particularly in the Seemanchal region of Bihar.

Anjani Kumar, the Superintendent of Police for Araria, corroborated the details of the incident. “Our unit was able to subdue him following the encounter at Dhalha canal. The injured officers were transported to Sadar Hospital for medical attention. Jha is also receiving treatment at the same facility,” he stated.

In the aftermath of the clash, a significant police presence was established to avert any further disturbances.

The injured officers include Mohammad Sub-Inspector STF, Kumar Vikas, the SHO of Narpatganj police station, Nagesh Kumar, a driver for STF, Sahabuddin Ansari, a Junior Constable of STF, and Deepak Kumar, another Junior Constable of STF.

On July 26, 2024, a gang comprising six criminals, including Chunmun Jha, made off with gold jewelry valued at ₹2 crore from the Tanishq jewelry outlet in Purnea.

On March 10, 2025, armed thieves invaded the Tanishq jewelry shop located in Ara town of Bhojpur district, stealing jewelry worth over ₹25 crore.

The Bhojpur Police acted promptly and apprehended two of the robbers shortly after the incident during a brief encounter.

Two bags containing parts of stolen jewelry were recovered from their custody, and the criminals suffered bullet wounds to their legs.
