Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 2 (NationPress) In a significant meeting held in Siliguri, Darjeeling district, West Bengal, Gorkha leaders engaged with BJP President Nitin Nabin on Monday, advocating for either the establishment of a separate state or recognition as a Union Territory (UT) for the hilly regions of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Kurseong in North Bengal.
Following their discussions, Raju Bista, the BJP MP representing Darjeeling, conveyed that President Nabin assured a commitment to find a permanent political resolution concerning the issues of the North Bengal hills, contingent upon the BJP gaining power in the upcoming crucial Assembly elections.
“Everyone has the right to voice their concerns, and such expressions should never be repressed. The BJP aims to address all grievances through dialogue. If the BJP forms the government in 2026, we will ensure a lasting solution to the hill-related issues,” Bista stated.
During his address to a gathering at Islampur in North Dinajpur district, part of the BJP's ongoing Parivartan Yatra that began on March 1, President Nabin remarked that the people of West Bengal have been deceived and let down by the current Trinamool Congress-led state administration over the past 15 years.
“The Trinamool Congress came to power by promising to restore the glory of West Bengal. However, what they delivered to the citizens was betrayal, increasing violence against women, and widespread corruption. When the safety of our women in West Bengal is at risk, the Chief Minister advises them not to go out after dark. Such an attitude is unacceptable in the land of Goddess Kali and Goddess Durga. Only the BJP can liberate the people of West Bengal from this turmoil,” Nabin stressed.
Furthermore, the BJP President criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly promoting appeasement politics to safeguard her loyal voter base.
“In matters of Namaz, she grants complete freedom. Yet, when it comes to the worship of Hindu deities, one must seek court permission. Our BJP workers have commenced this Parivartan Yatra, aimed at reaching every citizen and igniting a wave of transformation,” Nabin concluded.
