Gurugram's Deputy Commissioner Releases Directives for the Elimination of Diesel Auto-Rickshaws by Year-End

Gurugram, December 7 (NationPress) - On Saturday, Gurugram's Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar announced essential directives to phase out diesel vehicles in the area by December 31, adhering to the order from the Commission for Air Quality Management.
Following a discussion with officials, Kumar remarked, "Gurugram is recognized as a Millennium City both nationally and internationally. We must collaborate to ensure that visitors leave with a positive impression of our city."
He noted that the CAQM had established various deadlines on November 30, 2022, for the removal of diesel auto-rickshaws across the entire NCR region.
The deadline set for Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh is December 31, 2024.
Kumar instructed Sub-Divisional Officers, the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), and law enforcement officials to take action against diesel auto-rickshaws.
He also urged police to penalize auto-rickshaw drivers exceeding their vehicle’s passenger capacity.
The Deputy Commissioner further mandated that any auto-rickshaws operating without a registered number or being driven by minors should be promptly seized.
North Gurugram Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ravinder Kumar reported that there are a total of 38,400 auto-rickshaws on the roads, of which 1,015 are diesel-powered.
"In compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the registration of diesel auto-rickshaws in the district ceased on January 1, 2023. As part of our initiative to remove diesel auto-rickshaws, over 80 have been impounded to date," he mentioned.
The Deputy Commissioner stated in a post on the social media platform X that the district administration is actively engaged in environmental protection efforts, intensifying the removal of diesel auto-rickshaws from the area.
