Nagpur, Jan 18 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized on Sunday the unwavering commitment of the Prime Minister Modi-led government to attain 'Aatmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in ammunition production, aiming to transform the nation into a global hub for defence manufacturing.

During the inauguration of the Medium Caliber Ammunition Manufacturing Facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra, he reflected on past ammunition shortages that hindered the nation's defence readiness, underscoring the necessity for self-reliance in this critical sector.

The facility, launched by the Defence Ministry, is an advanced automated plant specializing in the production of 30mm ammunition, which plays a crucial role for both the Indian Army and the Indian Navy.

He also toured the Pinaka Rocket manufacturing site and launched the initial batch of Guided Pinaka rockets destined for Armenia.

Commending private sector contributions towards achieving a self-sufficient defence industry, Rajnath Singh noted the nation's progress in ammunition production, highlighting the quality and reliability of products being manufactured.

He particularly acknowledged the delivery of the Multi-Mode Hand Grenade, entirely produced within India by the private sector, to the Indian Army in 2021.

Additionally, he mentioned the successful deployment of Nagastra drones during Operation Sindoor, which effectively targeted terrorist locations, confirming their strategic importance.

He praised the advancements in Nagastra models, expressing confidence that the enhanced weaponry will be highly effective in future engagements.

Rajnath Singh also pointed out the successful test launch of the 'Bhargavastra' Counter Drone System, showcasing the technological prowess of the private sector.

Furthermore, the export of Pinaka missiles from the facility has commenced, signifying the defence industry’s growing export capabilities.

India is swiftly evolving from being a mere importer to a prominent exporter, he stated.

The Defence Minister highlighted Operation Sindoor as a testament to the critical nature of self-reliance for national security.

He stressed that modern warfare is becoming increasingly complex, necessitating advanced preparations.

"New warfare techniques are emerging. Conflicts are no longer limited to geographic boundaries," he stated.

"New fronts of conflict, including energy, trade, tariffs, supply chains, technology, and information, are becoming increasingly significant," Defence Minister Singh added.

"The necessity for border vigilance and cutting-edge technologies is paramount. Regardless of the type of conflict, a robust defence industrial base is essential. This reality demands greater involvement from the private sector in manufacturing and R&D," he concluded.
