The Defence Minister's Office confirmed that Baram briefed Singh on Israel's intent to deepen India-Israel defence cooperation within the Special Strategic Partnership ambit. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, were also present at the meeting, alongside other senior officials from both sides.

Ambassador Azar acknowledged the meeting warmly, stating in a post on X: 'Thank you Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh for hosting Maj Gen Amir Baram DG of Israel's Ministry of Defence. Together we are creating more joint projects that will make this Israel-India partnership even more unique!'

Diplomatic Momentum Since February

In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Israel for two days and held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which both leaders agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a Special Strategic Partnership — a significant upgrade in diplomatic status.

Following those talks, Modi posted on X: 'We've taken a historic decision to elevate our time-tested partnership to a Special Strategic Partnership. In April, India's Ambassador to Israel, J P Singh, met Israeli President Isaac Herzog at an event marking Israel's 78th Independence Day, extending greetings from Indian leadership and reaffirming New Delhi's commitment to the Special Strategic Partnership. The Embassy of India in Israel confirmed the meeting in a post on X, noting that the ambassador 'reaffirmed India's commitment to further strengthening the India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership.'
