New Delhi, June 21 (NationPress) On the occasion of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Saturday, the inaugural group of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrims, traversing the Nathu La route, engaged in Yoga practice in Bainang County, situated in the Tibet Autonomous Region, as an integral part of their spiritual experience.

“Yoga for health, peace, and harmony. The first group of ‘Kailash Mansarovar Yatra’ Yatris via the Nathu La route performed Yoga to commemorate the International Day of Yoga 2025 in Bainang County, Tibet Autonomous Region, while en route to partake in the sacred Yatra,” shared Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X.

In the prior week, following a five-year break, a cohort of pilgrims was officially launched for the Kailash Mansarovar journey from Ghaziabad by Uttar Pradesh Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh.

The ceremonial flag-off occurred at Indirapuram's Yatra Bhavan, where the minister ceremoniously inaugurated the pilgrimage. Over the next few days, a total of 15 groups are set to depart from the Yatra Bhavan, with special provisions and facilities established to ensure the comfort and security of all pilgrims.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, revered as one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism and other Indic traditions, was revitalized from Ghaziabad as the first group embarked on their spiritual quest.

In April, the MEA announced that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is scheduled to take place from June to August this year.

“This year, five batches, each comprising 50 Yatris, and 10 additional batches, each with 50 Yatris, are slated to journey through Uttarakhand State via Lipulekh Pass and through Sikkim State via Nathu La Pass,” stated a release issued by the MEA.

Since early this year, India and China had been finalizing arrangements to resume the Yatra.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra had been suspended since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lack of renewal of Yatra arrangements by the Chinese authorities. The Indian government typically organizes the Yatra between June and September through the two official routes: Lipulekh Pass (since 1981) in Uttarakhand and Nathu La Pass (since 2015) in Sikkim.

It was during a meeting held under the Foreign Secretary-Vice Foreign Minister mechanism in January this year that both nations announced plans to resume the Yatra in the summer of 2025.

Point of View

I view the revival of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra as a profound moment for spiritual seekers. It reflects the resilience and commitment towards preserving cultural heritage, fostering peace, and promoting wellness through Yoga, aligning with national interests and fostering international relations.
