Kolkata, June 28 (NationPress) Amid the rising outrage and political turmoil surrounding the rape incident at a Kolkata law college, the parents of the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder victim remarked on Saturday that the law student's family should also prepare for a prolonged legal struggle.
Their remarks came shortly after a law student was tragically raped within the college grounds on the evening of June 25.
They emphasized that the victim's family should be ready for an extended fight, especially given the influential support that the three alleged perpetrators receive.
The mother of the junior doctor, who fell victim to a horrific rape and murder last August, voiced concerns that, similar to her daughter's case, there might be attempts to shield the accused in the law college incident as well.
Consequently, they believe that a mass movement is essential, mirroring the response that followed the atrocious crime against their daughter.
“What is even more alarming is that despite the tragedy involving my daughter, there has been insufficient initiative to guarantee women's safety in educational institutions. The administration and the ruling party are now attempting to evade their responsibilities regarding the crime at the law college. This is predictable. However, the reality is that the influential support enjoyed by the accused has emboldened them to commit such a heinous act within the college premises,” stated the mother of the R.G. Kar victim.
The father of the R.G. Kar victim expressed his fears that, similar to his daughter's case, there may be efforts by powerful individuals and even some members of the administration to protect the accused.
“Thus, I believe that the parents of the victim in the law college case should also be ready for a prolonged fight like ours. They must understand that the administration will not assist them, and they will have to fight their battle as we have. What the victim’s parents need now is the overwhelming public support that we have received,” he added.
All three suspects in the case, identified as Monojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, are associated with the Trinamool Congress’ student wing, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP).
Images of Mishra with various prominent Trinamool Congress leaders have already circulated on social media. While Mishra is a former student of the same law college, the other two are current students.
All three were remanded into police custody until July 1.
